Products & Services

KIRCHHOFF Automotive – MAKING. MOBILITY. SAFE.

The focus of our trade show presence will be on innovative structural parts in crash-relevant lightweight construction as well as body structures developed specifically for e-mobility. We offer solutions that make tomorrow's mobility safe! For example, a newly developed crash management system with a large deformation capacity.

In e-vehicles, the consequences of a frontal collision can be dramatic due to the lack of an engine block and therefore a shortened front end.

KIRCHHOFF Automotive's Crash Management System with large deformation capacity protects the car passengers and the battery. Our global production network includes the core technologies of forming, joining, lightweight design, and surface treatment, ensuring uniform standards around the world.

Our customers can take advantage of our expertise in automotive lightweight design.

We develop structural parts in hybrid designs: combinations of steel/aluminum or metal/plastic.

Lixiang L9/L8/L7 Cross Car Beam

The cooperation between KIRCHHOFF Automotive and Lixiang started with the first generation of the One. We have developed all-aluminum front and rear bumpers and cross car beams for Lixiang X series.

Key features:
- KIRCHHOFF Automotive China's first cross car beam product developed specifically for electric vehicles
- Lightweight aluminum solution in 5 KG
- Meets tight tolerance requirements
- Each product is equipped with 2 tolerance adjusters for easy assembly

BMW 2 Active Tourer Front Axle Carrier

The front axle carrier is a complex chassis component for the further development (WE) of the BMW platform for the front-wheel drive architecture (FAAR).

Key features:
• For a large number of variants for the various vehicles on the FAAR WE platform our economical solution was to use as many identical parts as possible
• With clever design of the front axle carrier and local reinforcements we could reconcile the maximum permissible weight with crash safety.

BMW i20 Frontend & Crash Management System

The BMW SUV iX is designed for pure BEV (Battery-Electric-Vehicle) vehicles.
The introduction of force into the vehicle must be optimally designed for the requirements of e-mobility. Our newly developed hybrid joining concept for the front end is designed to meet these specified new load cases, thus ensuring continued occupant protection.
Technologies:
Front end: Aluminum forming
CMS front: Forming of high strength steel, laser cutting, laser & MAG welding, pickling, e-coating

News & Innovations

Pre-galvanized crash management system with large deformation capacity
Especially with e-vehicles, the engine block is missing and the front is often shortened. Thus, the consequences of a front collision are often dramatic. The central load application often leads to strong intrusions and poses an extreme risk to the passengers. A crash management system from KIRCHHOFF Automotive protects against this, in which the load paths and components have been adapted to this load case. The newly developed CMS enables continuous energy absorption over long intrusion paths without complete failure, thus protecting the passengers and the battery. In addition, the innovative concept offers increased corrosion protection through the use of pre-galvanized steels.

Further key features:
- Use of a MAG welding process optimized for galvanized materials: for process-reliable and low-porosity welding of galvanized steels and to ensure sufficient paint adhesion, especially in the area of the joining zone
- Realization of a completely laser welded concept with optimized design

Innovative instrument panel beam in hybrid design
Economical lightweight construction taken to the next level: With our new instrument panel beam in hybrid design, KIRCHHOFF Automotive is making one of its core products fit for future vehicle concepts, relying on an optimum mix of the materials steel and aluminum with simultaneous integration of large-area infotainment systems.

Development focus of this instrument panel beam:
• Economical lightweight construction through intelligent use of aluminum and steel
• Use of steel in the driver’s side area due to high stiffness requirements with limited installation space conditions
• Use of aluminum in the middle and passenger side area with more favourable installation space conditions
• Connection between the aluminum and steel components without additional mechanical joining elements
• Connection options for large-scale infotainment systems that ensure vibration-free mounting and a high level of security
